Yummy

Rusty and I have been trying to eat better.  Two weeks ago, I started using the Weight Watchers plan to count the points of what I eat.  I like the flexibility Weight Watchers allows.  You can eat whatever you want, you just have to keep within your points.  And the more active you are, the more points you get.

Yesterday, we had a very low point day with some yummy food.  For lunch, we grilled fresh shrimp and for sides had steamed corn and roasted asparagus.  Only 3 points for my whole lunch.

Then for dinner, I had a yummy smoothie.  I got a strawberry banana smoothie mix from Target and tried it.  YUMMY!!  It was really easy to make and tasted just like Smoothie King.  And it was only 2 points.

I've been doing this for 2 weeks and I lost 2 pounds the first week and 2 pounds this week.  If I can keep up this rate, I will be feeling good for cruise time!!

Parent Teacher Conference

I met yesterday with Caitlin's teacher, who we love. Caitlin is doing well, on track academically. Behaviorally, she still needs to work on some things, which was not a surprise. It is the same things we struggle with at home with her. She needs to focus more and listen better. Part of that is her age and the teacher was not at all concerned about it. Another thing she mentioned was she has a lot of reversals. What are reversals, you ask. Yeah, I had to ask two. It is where she writes a b for a d and vice versa or writes a word or number backwards. She showed me a word strip Caitlin had written. I couldn't read a single word on it and thought she just had horrible handwriting that day. Then the teacher read it to me, backwards. If this was the sentence, "Jill went to the store.". Caitlin had written it like this, "erots eht ot tnew lliJ.". My mouth hit the floor. I immediately though of dyslexia. She is not concerned about that. She actually said it was kind of impressive. She said that she wouldn't be able to read as well as she does if she was dyslexic. She said that reversals come and go and kids may struggle with it at times but it's kind of a cycle. So she wasn't worried. It was weird, though!

Rusty the Puppy

Oh my goodness, look at this cute puppy!!  I am SO not a dog person, but I wanted to take this little guy home.  He is a miniature dachshund and his name is Rusty.  hehe

Caitlin just loved him and . . . surprise, surprise was not allergic to his licking.  Usually when a dog licks her, she turns all red for a few hours.  She let him lick her and never turned red.  So one day, far, far away, when I finally cave, this may have to be the type of dog we get.  Because who could not love a face like this:

Or maybe these guys.  I like Yorkshire Terriers too.

Crazy sleeper

Apparently Caitlin decided to undress in the middle if the night. This is how she woke up this morning.

I asked her why she tried to undress and she said she had no idea.

OBX

We just got back from a week long family vacation to Outer Banks, NC.  It was SO much fun!!

We rented a 7 bedroom house that was steps away from the ocean.  It was great!

It was a little cold when we first got there but warmed up after a while.  The hot tub was a hit with everyone the whole week.

The best part of the trip was all the family we got to enjoy - all of Rusty's siblings were there with all the spouses and kids, Rusty's dad, my mom and my brother and his wife.

We did lots of fun things while we were there.  We went putt putt golfing, deep sea fishing and toured a lighthouse.

While deep sea fishing, I caught 4 fish, a crab and a stingray.  It was AWESOME!

Finally enjoying the beach!
