100th day of school

Today Alaina celebrated the 100th day of school.  Her school always has a party.  Today she was supposed to bring in a bag off 100 things (she took pennies) and wear a shirt that 100 things attached (we chose stickers).  So here she is with 100 heart stickers attached to her shirt.  She LOVED it but I'm afraid she will be "littering" stickers all through her school today as they fall off.  Oops!

Honor Choir

Back in November, Caitlin found out she was selected to be in the Honor Choir for middle TN.  She was really looking forward to the day because she got to miss the whole day of school.  :)
They practiced the entire day and had a concert that night.

Caitlin is in the back row, 3rd from the left.  She's one of the few NOT holding music.  She had it all memorized before getting there.

Her favorite part was hanging out with so many of her friends.  Her school had the largest number of kids selected for the choir.  We just love her choir teacher and obviously she knows what she's doing!

And here's a picture of all the kids from her school that made the choir:

Saturday Skating

We decided to have some fun Saturday and the girls picked roller skating. We went in the afternoon because I thought it wouldn't be as busy as nighttime.  It was PACKED!  I would hate to see what it was like at night!  The girls loved it and each saw a friend that they knew from school.

Picky Eater?

Alaina decided last week that she wanted to try a salad so I ordered one that I liked that she could share.  She wanted more and wanted to eat my entire meal.  So on the weekend, I took her to Panera and she got her own salad and LOVED it.  She loves the boiled egg, avocado and cucumbers!  She ate this one with no dressing because she only likes ranch and Panera only had fru-fru dressings. She wouldn't even try the BBQ Ranch that I love.

No more!

So Caitlin wanted to get her hair colored.  She had saved up enough money if she went to the Paul Mitchell school and let someone training do it.  We have a friend that works in the managing of the school and we knew she would take care of her. Her appointment was the day before school started back after winter break. I had to work but Rusty dropped her off and then went to an appointment he had.

This was what she said she wanted (her natural brown on the top, fading to red, fading to blond).

After 5 hours of hair color, this is what she got.
This was in no way the fault of the students doing her hair.  Jen told me later that there seemed to be some miscommunication.  She was supervising it and for some reason Caitlin said she wanted red on the top and she picked the shade!!  This is what happens when mom doesn't go along for the hair appointment! So she came home in a panic and I tried to not freak out but we weren't happy with it and she did NOT want to go to school the next day.

Jen knew she wasn't thrilled with it and called me.  She had found a friend, a graduate of the Paul Mitchell program, who would fix it, that night, for free, because Jen asked (I still sent money for this angel).  She even took her for me and stayed with her.  They were there until midnight but she came home happy and looking normal.  I was so thankful for Jen and this unknown woman who worked hard and made my daughter happy!

Before and after:

It looks so pretty now but we aren't doing this again for a while, even if Caitlin saves for it.  I made her promise no more hair color experiments for 2 years!

Elsa hair

I discovered a new hairstyle that both girls are loving - a pull through braid.  It is so much easier than French braiding and doesn't hurt my fingers.

Cutest Little Panda

Caitlin LOVES to play with makeup and Alaina LOVES to be made up, so it works out great!  Caitlin asked her what animal she wanted to be and the answer was a Panda!  Goes great with her Panda pjs!

This happened - first talk

Caitlin was asked at the end of last year to give a talk in Sacrament meeting.  She got to pick her own topic and chose to talk about miracles.  I printed some resources for her.  She read and highlighted parts she wanted to use and then we sat together and drafted what she wanted to say.  She did fabulous!
